Chicago House Legend DJ Sneak Brings a Vinyl-Only Day Party to San Diego

San Diego is getting a proper dose of Chicago house this summer as DJ Sneak takes over Quartyard for an open-air edition of SHINE.

Presented by Late Night Jackin, The Deep End, and West Coast Weekender, the daytime event takes place on Sunday, August 2, bringing one of house music’s most influential selectors to the heart of Downtown San Diego.

Running from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, the party offers five hours of open-air grooves in a setting built for dancing before sunset.

A Chicago House Original

Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Chicago, DJ Sneak became one of the key figures behind the city’s second wave of house music.

His signature sound combines jacking drums, funky basslines, gritty samples, and disco-filtered loops. That unmistakable style has influenced generations of producers, including artists who helped bring filtered house into the global mainstream.

Sneak’s path began in Chicago’s warehouse culture, where radio, record stores, mixtapes, and underground parties shaped his approach to DJing. Influences such as Farley “Jackmaster” Funk and Ralphi Rosario helped form the foundation, while his background in graffiti and airbrush art supported the independent spirit that would follow him throughout his career.

That do-it-yourself attitude eventually led to the launch of Defiant Records in 1990 and a touring career that carried his sound from intimate house parties to major festivals and Ibiza dancefloors.
