The global electronic music industry continues to grow. According to the IMS Business Report 2025, unveiled at IMS Ibiza, the market is now worth $12.9 billion, a 6% increase from last year.
Much of the growth comes from rising genres like Afro house, Amapiano, drum & bass, and UK garage. Afro house climbed into Beatport’s top five, while streaming growth exploded in markets like Mexico, Brazil, and India—bringing in millions of new fans worldwide.
Streaming subscriptions reached 818 million, but new royalty rules mean smaller artists earn less if their tracks don’t hit 1,000 plays. Independent labels are gaining ground, but many still rely on major label systems.
Live events are booming, with revenues more than double pre-pandemic levels, though that’s largely due to higher ticket prices. Big festivals thrive, while smaller clubs and underground promoters face tougher challenges.
Fans remain dedicated—vinyl sales are strong, and TikTok views of electronic music jumped to 13 billion in 2024. Meanwhile, AI tools are rapidly entering the scene, making music creation more accessible but also raising questions about authenticity.
The report also notes a shift toward local scenes driving global influence, as audiences connect with music rooted in their own culture.
Electronic music is stronger than ever: global, diverse, and evolving. The challenge now is ensuring growth benefits artists at every level, not just the top.
